My keen interest to finance started from charity funds. I first learned about charity funds when I volunteered to teach children in the underdeveloped area softball. I have since become obsessed with the operations of charity funds, and I am committed to advancing the charity fund management in my home country where I see huge room for efficiency gains. I have developed firm foundation in finance through my rigorous coursework and a variety of internship and entrepreneurial practices. The masters of finance program will help me gain the professional expertise and network opportunity that are essential for my career aspirations.

I double majored in Russian and finance in university, equipping myself with the basics of finance and focusing on trading activities between Russia and China. I took every opportunity to get first-hand experience in finance through extracurricular activities. In the MCD commercial strategic analysis competition, I applied knowledge in accounting to build up corporate financial statements and analyzed the management structure of the company. As the team captain, I led the team to win the third place out of more than 20 teams. I also won an Honorable Mention in the ICM Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling )for building a model that optimized refugee evacuation plan.

As courses and competitions fail to quench my thirst in learning finance, I started my own entrepreneur adventures and sought internships at brand name consulting firms. I interned at MillwardBrown ACRS in my sophomore year as a data analyst, serving well known institutional clients. I learned a lot about branding and communications,while further honing my technical skills in Microsoft office and statistical analysis software such as SPSS. The consulting internship introduced me to practical knowledge in corporate finance, which came in handy when applied to the company that I co-founded-Naodong Space Exchange Platform. The startup, an online forum for room escape players to compare notes, received more than $120,000 in the first round of capital funding. My responsibilities progressed as the start up expanded to have its own room escape facility in Beijing. I have always enjoyed digging deeper into the business drivers that impact the important cash flows such as sales and expense. For example, I learned to cut cost through managing liquidity and controlling inventory, all of which will prove useful in my future career.

The masters in finance program is a crucial step to achieve my dream of managing charity funds. I will not only benefit from your prestigious program's state of the art faculty and well-balanced curriculum, but I will also embrace the culture in the US finance industry and to build strong professional network. I look forward to learning the modern practices in charity fund management in the US. With my back ground in Russian an Chinese, I hope to devote my career to more in-depth research into how the two countries' charity fund operate, and to continuously contribute to the developing areas.
